The Great Kora Squirrel Rescue

As we prepare for one of the busiest weeks of the summer season, with schools letting out and Canada Day around the corner, an unexpected wildlife rescue became the highlight of our week at Kora Cottages.

Over several days, five baby squirrels fell from a nest on the property. We kept them warm, hydrated, and safe while hoping their mother would return. Despite our efforts and many hours of waiting, she never came back.

With the help of our caring local bylaw staff, the first four babies were safely transported for rehabilitation. When a fifth and final squirrel fell from the nest afterward, the amazing community at the Wild Palz Facebook group helped connect us with a wildlife volunteer who quickly stepped in to help reunite it with its siblings.

All five babies are now together and receiving professional care at Procyon Wildlife.

One of the most rewarding parts of this experience has been the wonderful follow-up from the Procyon Wildlife team. Through photos and updates showing the babies being fed and cared for, we've been able to see firsthand that they are receiving exceptional treatment from some of Ontario's most dedicated wildlife rehabilitation professionals.

We would like to thank our local bylaw staff, the Wild Palz community, the volunteer who helped transport the final baby, and the incredible team at Procyon Wildlife for giving these five little squirrels a second chance at life.

Sometimes the best stories at Kora Cottages are the ones we never expect. ❤️🐿️
